UK EXCLUSIVE Jasika Nicole "Sew Close" Sewist Maker Sewing Illustration 11" x 17"

From the artist, Jasika Nicole:

My Illustrated Maker Series envisions crafters as artists, because that’s what we are! From the delicate way our fingers dance over textiles to the way we infuse little bits of ourselves in all the beauty we create- I want to honor the culture of sewists, knitters and makers worldwide, and to reflect our diverse community. As a black artist, seeing myself mirrored in the world around me has always been incredibly important, but it’s not always available- I’ve grown up imagining myself in the work of others, whether that work was meant for people like me or not. Now I feel as though I am finally able to invite a broader audience into my world, the making world, where so many of us thrive and connect and inspire each other.

This illustration is part of a series of maker-inspired prints I've been working on over the past several months. As a sewist/ knitter/ woodworker/ textile artist/ ceramicist/ illustrator, I realized that I don't often come across artwork that embodies the various and rich experiences of the maker community. I've imagined all the households across the globe beautified by the maker's creations, but without walls that hold up mirror images of the creator themself, which I hope to change!

"Sew Close" is my first foray in the maker series capturing the visual manifestation of the popular "pants down" mantra. Many of us sewists have been here before, craning our necks in the mirror and twisting our bodies to see what the back of our basted garment looks like, pants down to keep the silhouette intact, measuring tape wrapped around us like a hug, giving us the nudge in the right direction that we need. The focus and concentration necessary to get that *perfect* fit in a garment is palpable, yet another experience that universally unites us!

The illustrations are printed in black, white, and small amounts of color on 11 x 17 #100 matte poster paper.

Individually packaged in clear 100% recycled Eco-Enclose flap and seal bags with 100% recycled cardboard backing to protect the artwork.
